December 25, 2009, Newsletter Issue #152: Baby Bedding for the Crib

Tip of the Week

A baby's crib is set up a little different than a regular child's or adult's bed. It has to be safe and free of loose sheets to make sure that the baby doesn't become entangled in them. Here is a list of some items to get to set up a comfortable and safe crib for your baby:

a few fitted sheets that fit snuggly over the mattress.
a crib bumper, make sure it meets safety standards.
a couple of waterproof mattress covers.
soft baby blankets. These can be used to cover baby while on the stroller, or for floor play time and can be used on the crib when the baby is older.
a comforter or quilt that is just for decoration until the baby is older.

Since the baby shouldn't be covered with a blanket until he is older, a good way to keep him warm during colder weather or an air conditioned room is with 'wearable blankets', these are like sacks that have a zipper which you put on the baby. They stay put, and help baby be warm and cozy.
