August 31, 2007, Newsletter Issue #80: Books for Baby

Tip of the Week

Reading to your baby at a young age is proven to provide a head start with regards to learning and development. Babies are generally attracted to bright colors, lines and big shapes. Stroll the aisles of any local bookstore and easily discover many baby books that offer brightly colored pages to catch a baby's attention. Regardless of what books you read to baby, reading is one of the most important things you can do for your child.

Board books provide parents a great place to start, graduating to short stories when your baby's attention span begins to lengthen. Before long, you will be able to capture and hold your child's attention while reading, even at a very young age. Resist frustration if your baby wiggles and avoids sitting every time. Eventually, reading consistently encourages a love for stories and literature. Before you realize it, he will be asking you to read to him all of the time.
