Railing Safety

Banisters on stairs or balconies aren't generally designed with baby safety in mind. Basically anything that has slats for a baby to get his arms, legs or head wedged into could pose a danger. Federal law mandates crib-railing slats to be a maximum of 2-3/8" apart to maintain a safe distance for baby's precious little extremities. Employ this requirement as a guideline to judge other household furniture, railings, and products. If the gap between your banister railings is much wider, there is a safety risk. Many safety products on the market can be used to attach over the railings to protect your infant from harm.
