March 30, 2007, Newsletter Issue #59: Baby Car Seats

Tip of the Week

Safety first! When purchasing a baby car seat keep in mind these key safety concerns: Check the size of your infant or child, as car seats are designed for children according to weight, height and age. Test your baby in the car seat itself, if possible. Be sure it supports the neck and body, is comfortable, easy to use, and has a five-point harness strap. Try the seat in your car, as some baby car seats actually do not fit in certain car models. Check to be sure the car's seat belt will adequately restraint the car seat with little side to side and back and forth movement. When purchasing an infant car seat, it is installed rear facing, in the middle of the back seat. Fit the infant car seat into your vehicle before your new baby arrives to ensure a secure mount in this position. This will keep your infant as safe as possible when traveling. Lastly, review the various features of the different baby and infant car seats to be sure they meet your individual needs.
