June 2, 2006, Newsletter Issue #19: Stain Resistant Baby Spoons

Tip of the Week

Several baby spoons on the market today come with a silicone tip. The rubbery finish of the utensil is perfect for a baby's sensitive, teething mouth. Unfortunately, many of these spoons also stain from certain baby foods and no amount of dishwashing detergent removes the color transformation.

One alternative is to use a stain resistant infant spoon that is available on the market. They come in brightly colored tips to coordinate the spoon color with the food that your baby eats to avoid stain residues, the darker the color the better.

The other option is to soak the stained spoons in vinegar overnight and then wash in hot water. The vinegar is a non-toxic cleaner and sterilizer that can remove some types of stains.
