April 7, 2006, Newsletter Issue #11: Cancelling a Baby Shower

Tip of the Week

Given all the potential reasons, there are certainly times when a baby shower will need to be cancelled or rescheduled. Talk with the host about ideas of how to contact the party guests. With enough lead-time, a letter or email is the best method of notifying everyone. If the baby shower needs to be cancelled a few days before, subsequently team up and place phone calls to all the guests.

If the baby shower is cancelled due to complications with a pregnancy, it is always very difficult to share this type of news. It is probably best to be as open and forward as you can about what type of difficulty your baby is facing, and ask family members and friends for their support during this time. It is appropriate for expecting parents facing difficulty to request to not be contacted for a while, in order to avoid answering the same painful questions over again. You may want to include the phone number or email address of a close friend or relative who can keep everyone informed of any new developments without having to contact you directly. If the pregnancy recovers and you want to reschedule a baby shower, go right ahead. Good friends and family always enjoy celebrating good news.
